Lone Star Stories Closing

I realized today that I no longer have a sustainable interest in publishing Lone Star Stories. It's been an honor and a pleasure to publish the webzine for five-and-a-half years, and I really appreciate all of the support I've received from editors, authors, and readers. (Thank you, everyone!) However, I just feel the need to take a break from the publishing arena. (It's not a matter of money or time--just a sense that I've reached a good end point.)

Oh, and the Lone Star Stories site will stay up for the foreseeable future. I might resurrect the site someday. We'll see.

Oh no!
Now my initial shock is out of the way --
5 1/2 years? What a run. What an amazing job. Thank you for all you did for writers, and readers, and whowing what could be done with a webzine.
Oh, I'm so saddened by this. You've really supported me all along and I appreciate your faith. thank you for all you've given to the field.
Thank you, Cat, for the work you sent my way and for your support of LSS.

And on a far more important note, I hope your troubles end very soon. You have a lot of support out there and from me as well.
Eric:

Thank you for your tireless efforts. I concur with the poster above me: you've contributed much to the field.
It was my pleasure, Laird.
Oh, I'm very sad to hear this. I've always been terribly impressed with the product you've put out as just a one-man venture, but I can certainly understand wanting to take a break, whether temporary or permanent. And I'm glad that the site will still be available to read.

Thanks so much for five and a half years of truly pro-level editing.
It was my pleasure.
Thanks for the work you've done, Eric. You're one of the good guys.
It was my pleasure, Greg.
Sorry to see things come to an end. Congratulations on a good and enjoyable run.
It was my pleasure, Neil. Thank you for your support and for all of your continuing, exemplary work with Clarkesworld Magazine.
Eric, I'm very sad to hear this; zines of the quality of Lone Star Stories are all too rare. But I understand the motivation. Here's hoping you decide to re-open someday!
It was my pleasure, and thanks for your understanding.
DUDE! Dude. Dood. =/

Dude.

You'll be missed. And not replaced.

Dude.

On the other hand, I wish you the best, and hope this means I'll be seeing more Eric Marin stories.
Thanks, Kaolin. It was my pleasure.

And maybe I will start writing again. :-)
Sorry to hear this, Eric. Thanks for the great five and a half years!
It was my pleasure, Marshall.

This is upsetting, but all good things must come to an end, whether for now or forever.

Thanks for all your work and for keeping the site up. I'm hoping the magazine returns someday.

~Matt
It was my pleasure, Matt. LSS might return sometime. Or perhaps I'll start something new someday.
Sorry to see it end, but glad it's not at a bad time for you.
Thank you.
I always said one of the best parts of LSS was that there was just you to please -- but I always knew that it was the dangerous part, too. You've been my first-line rejector ;) almost since I first heard of you, and a lot of other people's, too, because of your kindness and encouragement even when you had to say "not this time".

I wish a time had come, I would have been very proud to see one of my stories in LSS. Maybe, as you say, someday. I hope so. :)
Maybe so. :-)
Oh, I will miss LSS so much! But I understand. Best of luck with everything :)
Thanks, Kathy. :-)
Dang. Thanks for the hard work and fine product. Glad to have the Lone Star Stories Reader. Just wish it had not become such a collectors item so fast!

Best for the future,

JSR
It was my pleasure, Jay. Thanks for buying the anthology.
So sorry to hear that, but after holding out for that long (not to mention making such an impressive mark on the field with awesome stories) I can understand you'd want a break. I'll definitely miss LSS, but I'm sure you'll find a lot of good uses for the time you've just freed.

It was my pleasure, Aliette, and thanks. :-)
Sorry to hear this! I think you made a big success of the zine.
Thank you for everything, Martha.
I'm sorry to hear that, but thank you for a wonderful venue and all your support.
Thank you for all of your support, as well, Jay.
Much, much thanks for a fabulous webzine - especially the poetry :) If you ever change your mind, I'll be reading.
Thank you, Mari.
It's been a good run. I was hoping to be published by you one day. Ah, well. Thanks for all the good stories.
It was my pleasure.
I'm sorry to see the magazine go, and sad I never managed to break into it, but 5 1/2 years is a good run and you did some great work for SF/F, showcased some fabulous emerging talent and giving voice to some wonderful new writers. Good luck, and may the future hold wonderful things for you!
Thank you, Michael.
Sad to see it go, but you know best. If you've found a good point to draw a line under it, fair play to you.

All the best

gb
Thank you, Gerard.
So sorry to hear this, Eric! It was a great run, though, and hopefully you'll come back to it someday. Or some other editing-related enterprise. Working with you was an honor and a pleasure.
Likewise, Sarah. Thanks very much for all of your support.

Well, damn! I was just about to send you something . . .

More to the point, congratulations (and thanks) for all the good work you've done with LSS over the years. Sad to see it go, but a joy that it existed as long as it did.
It was my pleasure. Thank you.
Selling to you was always an accomplishment. If you bought one of my poems--and the one story you took--then I knew I'd written something worthwhile. You weren't only the fastest editor in the West, you were the most discriminating.

A good market is hard to find, a good editor even harder. So yeah, this depresses the hell out of me, but I know you wouldn't do this unless this was the right decision for you. That's the important thing.

Now go forth and write that novel. And make sure I get to read it

Thank you, Jaime. :-)

I'll make sure you get to see my novel, if I ever write it. Of course, you may regret asking to read it. *grin*
Congrats on a terrific run, Eric.

And good luck with Whatever Comes Next.
Thank you, Deb, for all of your support.
